When painting with Oils I am constantly aware of the flexibility of their potential. I don’t use brushes, just my hands, palette knives and cloths and work on board or panel rather than canvas which is too springy to accommodate my technique.
The qualities of form I look to integrate within my expression with this material reflect the immediacy I feel when working in this subtle and exciting medium.
I also like to push myself by limiting my palette and in some cases, apart from painting the board or panel white, using just one colour in different intensities to make a work - an example of this would be 'The Orchard - Glastonbury'. It is interesting and difficult but also extremely pleasing when something needing subtle changes of density works well.
