PAINTING WITH OILS
When painting with Oils I am constantly aware of the flexibility of their potential. I don’t use brushes, just my hands, palette knives and cloths and work on board or panel rather than canvas which is too springy to accommodate my technique.
The qualities of form I look to integrate within my expression with this material reflect the immediacy I feel when working in this subtle and exciting medium.
I also like to push myself by limiting my palette and in some cases (apart from painting the board or panel either black or white) using just one colour in different intensities to make a work. It is interesting and difficult but also extremely pleasing when something needing subtle changes of density works well.
